At WWE Backlash, World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will face his dangerous cousin Jacob Fatu. For the first time in over two years, Reigns won a championship by defeating CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Title in the main event of WrestleMania. The next night, The OTC returned on Raw with The Usos to celebrate a new era and expressed interest in collaborating again. However, Fatu unexpectedly interrupted the celebration and shocked the WWE Universe by challenging The OTC to a title match at Backlash. Fatu believes The OTC has not done anything to support him and his family because Solo Sikoa was the one who brought Fatu to WWE to help take down Reigns. Because of this, Fatu is determined to win the World Heavyweight Title. Reigns knows he must deal with this threat from his family and make The Samoan Werewolf acknowledge him.

Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker will look to annihilate each other when they collide at WWE Backlash. Once allies in The Vision, Breakker led a coup that ousted Rollins from his own faction in October. After both wrestlers suffered injuries, Bron reemerged at WrestleMania 42 to spear Rollins, causing him to lose to Gunther. Following this, Breakker ran down the WrestleMania ramp and delivered a massive post-match spear to Rollins. On the Raw after WrestleMania, Breakker attacked his former mentor again. This escalating conflict led to Rollins challenging Breakker to prove he’s ready to take over in a one-on-one match.

At WWE Backlash, United States Champion Trick Williams will fight Sami Zayn in a very personal match. Williams and his friend Lil Yachty created a live-action Gingerbread Man on SmackDown before WrestleMania, intending to mock Sami, which ended with Zayn delivering a powerful Helluva Kick to the character. Two days later, Trick won the United States Title from Zayn at WrestleMania. Five days later on SmackDown, Williams held a Championship Celebration. When the Gingerbread Man appeared, it turned out to be Zayn in disguise. Furious, Zayn attacked both Trick and Lil Yachty with a brutal Candy Cane assault. The following week, Zayn lost his patience. Annoyed by what he felt was a joke at his expense, Zayn attacked the Gingerbread Man. Trick rushed backstage for help, but it was too late. The Gingerbread Man was soon declared “cooked.” A disappointed Williams responded by agreeing to a title rematch against Zayn at WWE Backlash and announced a funeral for the Gingerbread Man.

The quirky Danhausen must find a tag team partner to face The Miz and Kit Wilson at WWE Backlash. After weeks of seeking mentorship from The Miz, Danhausen was finally accepted by The A-Lister, but it turned out to be a setup leading to a fierce beatdown involving Wilson. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made the match official but required Danhausen to find a partner for the tag team bout.

In a confrontation months in the making, IYO SKY will battle her former ally Asuka at WWE Backlash. Asuka and SKY have been at odds since The Empress of Tomorrow betrayed her friend last September. On the Raw after WrestleMania, IYO teamed up with her long-time ally and newly crowned WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley to defeat The Kabuki Warriors in a tag match, a loss that left Asuka furious. The following week, Asuka returned to sabotage IYO’s Women’s Intercontinental Title match against Becky Lynch, ending with a brutal post-match attack. Asuka is a four-time Women’s Champion on the main roster, a Royal Rumble winner, a Money in the Bank winner, and holds the record for the longest reign with the NXT Women’s Title at over 500 days. Despite her great success, Asuka remains hostile toward The Genius of the Sky, who has won two Women’s Championships on the main roster and achieved a Money in the Bank victory in 2023. Now, Asuka is determined to defeat IYO once and for all.
